In my blogging absence I've become OBSESSED with my nails. All it took was one minx application and I'm hooked on having fancy fingertips. Plain old polish just will no longer cut it. Looks like someone else has also gone bananas (literally) for the trend.

WAH nails was so inspired by Prada's Spring runway fashions, that they created a ripe banana design. Kudos WAH!!!

Honestly, if you have not tried minx or Sally Hansen polish strips, you are missing out!
They will change your life. Or at least how you look at your nails....and how everyone else will!

Designer Kelsey Witte credits salsa clubs, cigarettes and parades (among other things), as inspirations. maSh consists of 5 styles, with each look being daring but wearable.

BEHIND THE SCENES: GRAYCE by MOLLY SIMS

My first interaction with model/actress/designer Molly Sims was a brief conversation at Cosmopolitan Magazine. I was a fashion assistant, and Molly was modeling. I told her that I was traveling to California but wasn't really familiar with LA. Without hesitation she gave me her phone number, told me to call her and that she would have suggestions ready for me. I was moved by her kindness and I've been a fan of hers ever since.

Now, 12 years later she's done something even dearer to my heart... she designed a jewelry line for HSN!

Here are a few gems I'm crazy for:

I had the pleasure of catching up with her last week, and she told me about the line, all her hard work and the happiness it's brought.

Accessory Source: What made you want to start a line?

Molly Sims: My mom has been collecting jewelry for over 30 years -- her passion became my passion. When I first starting acting, I had a hard time getting people to lend me clothes for red carpets and events. My mom would give me her jewelry to wear. She's been a big part Grayce, and she calls me everyday with ideas.

AS:Why the name Grayce?

MS: My mom always use to say to me, "No matter how old you are, it doesn't matter if you're 60, 5 or 20, you should always be graceful and grateful." I've been hearing that for over 30 years.

AS: Are you involved in every detail?

MS: Every detail!! I'm doing it all, booking hair and makeup, photographers -- you name it!

AS: It's so annoying to me when celebs just slap their names on a line without working on it. What are your thoughts on that?

MS: That was one of my biggest worries. My parents were honest and hard working people. I learned from them, and I'm not just going to put my name on anything. The best thing is that I've used my modeling, acting, travel, eclecticism and southern roots in the line. It's everything I am. And it's great to see something through from beginning, middle and end. I've never been a part of the whole process before.

It takes a lot of work to get quality and a really good price.

AS: What's your favorite trend right now?

MS: Mixed metals. I love wearing hematite with gold and silver.

AS: I'm obsessed with that too.

AS: Do all your friends want a piece from the line?

MS: Are you kidding? The personal orders are stacking up!

AS: Do you have any advice on how people should wear their jewelry?

MS: Have a friend tell you when something is too much. If you're going to wear a lot of bracelets, it looks more chic and modern to stack them on one arm, and don't wear them higher than the length of your hand. Mix the sizes -- wear a small one, then big, then small. It's a good way to mix high- and low-end. I mix everything!

AS: Are you always wearing the line?

MS: I wear something everyday, but I mix it up. Jewelry is my accessory. Don't get me wrong -- I love shoes, but jewelry is my thing.

AS: What do you see going forward?

MS: I got a deal to do a high-end line for Bendels, but everything will be under $250.

AS: Did you ever think during your J.Crew modeling days that this is what you would be doing?

MS: Never! I took a picture of the window at Henri Bendel recently because I was so excited.

AS: Were your pieces in it?

MS: No! I was just so excited that I was going to be and it made my mother proud. It's nice to be excited and passionate about something. I've been wearing so many hats with the line, but it's different when you're doing it for yourself -- you want to do it right. I'm enjoying where I am right now, and I get to use what I've learned about entertainment, photography and fashion in this. It's amazing to think about where I started. I like being a good role model and sharing this with my mom. It's been a bonding experience.

Now I think you can see why I've always been a fan. She's a down-to-earth southern belle with charm and yes.... grace.

Molly and her beautiful baubles will be on HSN tomorrow, February 25th from 12pm-2pm and 9pm-11pm. It's a must see!

A few years ago, it was love at first sight for me and Melissa Plastic Dreams. The idea of having stylish shoes that can be worn in the rain really appealed to me. Fast forward to present day and I just happen to live around the corner from a boutique that carries the largest selection! Coincidence? I think not!

Epaulet on Smith Street in Brooklyn stocks their shelves with Melissa exclusives! Yes, exclusives! Take a look at some of my favorites:

These bronze bombers are spray painted like the body of a car. Reminds me of nail polish because the color changes at different angles.

My only complaint? They aren't made in half sizes. So if you're a true half size like me, not every style fits. It's a heart breaker.

Jean Paul Gaultier is the latest designer to announce a partnership with Melissa. Aaaamazing! I can't wait to see what other fashion icons will contribute to the eco brand.

I previewed Lia Sophia's Lanaya collection today, and liked what I saw. Designer Dani Stahl incorporated many of my favorite elements from last season's Midnight II line into Lanaya: matte gold, black, gunmetal, and smoky stones. Honestly, I can't get enough of the black!

Chain fringe is a new and exciting element for the line. Me likey.

HOLIDAY

My family vacay was full of unexpectedness.

1) It was freezing.

2) I had to wear the only pair of jeans and navy blazer I brought, over and over.

3) My return flight was cancelled due to inclement weather and I was stuck there for 4 more days.

4) As a result of the above, my looks were nautical everyday.

BEHIND THE SCENES: KENNETH JAY LANE

I've always been a fan of Kenneth Jay Lane jewelry. I mean, really, how could any self-proclaimed accessory junkie not be in love with this line?

After sitting down with Mr. Lane, I'm now a fan of the man behind the empire, too.

I thought my interview may have started off on the wrong foot when his answer to my first question was, "Haven't you read my book?" To which, I rather sheepishly responded, "Ummm, no..." Thankfully, he wasn't offended.

He actually asked his public relations manager to bring me a copy. And the next thing I knew -- he was signing it. A true gentleman!

Accessory Source: How many years have you been in business?

Kenneth Jay Lane: Close to 50.

AS: What made you want to design women's jewelry?

KJL: I had to do something. I designed jeweled shoes for Arnold Scaasi. I made jeweled buttons, earrings and bracelets to match the shoes, and that's how it all started.

AS: How many of the same trends in the company's 50 years have you seen repeat?

KJL: We have pieces that we've sold for 40 years. Some we've revived or invented different closures for. (both below)

AS: Do you refer back to old pieces? Do you have a library?

KJL: We keep almost everything, everything is numbered. I take a little of one thing and add it to something else. I design very well with a copy machine, scissors, Wite-Out and tape.

AS: Are you ever excited when a celebrity is wearing one of your pieces?

KJL: In retrospect, Jackie Kennedy. She would wear a pair of earrings that she got from me when she was still in the White House. But I get most excited when I see a woman on the street that I don't know wearing it.

AS: Do you have any advice for women on how they should wear their jewelry?

KJL: Don't be afraid of costume. Six strands of real pearls is showing off, but simulated jewelry -- it's fashion.

AS: Is there such a thing as too much?

KJL: Think of it as if it were diamonds. Would it be too much? No.

AS: Do your female loves ones have large jewelry boxes filled with Kenneth Jay Lane?

KJL: Some have closets full.

As we walked around the showroom, we came to a drawer that was full of broaches, Mr. Lane uttered my favorite quote of the day. Perhaps my favorite quote about fashion.

KJL: Women don't wear broaches anymore -- ladies do.

He continued to say, "Stores don't by them as much, but they are the perfect gift because they fit everyone and you don't need to know their size."

KJL: This octopus I designed purely for my own amusement, and it's sold very well.

KJL: I love snakes.

I do too -- in jewelry design -- and this necklace is sinful!

KJL: The crystal elements that are not Swarovski are specially made in Germany. (below)

Before I walked away from Mr. Lane and ventured on to the rest of the showroom, he said to me, "The most important thing, is that I still love what I do."

Must be the secret to his success!

This is the warehouse, where all the magic happens.

A jeweler glues stones onto a bracelet. Her tool of choice? A toothpick, for precision.

Beads being strung on thread.

Chain being measured and cut.

This room is a library of jewels where editors go to select pieces and where orders are filled. I wish this was my personal jewelry closet.

There are hundreds of numbered drawers filled with baubles.

Of course, I had to try some stuff on!

While many retailers carry Kenneth Jay Lane, there is only one flagship store located in The Plaza Hotel. I highly recommend a visit. Trust me, it's a jewelry paradise.

There's no excuse for my lack of posts this week, but I've been very busy. I apologize dearly.

Over the years, bangles have become a staple in my arsenal of accessories. Because they're constantly being reinvented, I have drawers full of them crafted from various materials, like wood, Lucite, plastic, metal, Bakelite, etc...

While I've been M.I.A., I came across these bangles from The Accessory Lady. Handmade with a yarn blend of mohair and cotton, they're a perfect addition to your wooly winter wardrobe!

I'd also like to take the time to thank Carly from Chic Steals for the Beautiful Blogger award. Carly's blog is chuck full of great fashion, and the award means a lot coming from her.

Will cowboy boots ever go out of style? Not likely!

Mainly because they transition from season to season with ease, thus becoming a wardrobe staple. I've already seen cowboy kickers in several spring 2010 collections, including Isabel Marant, Stuart Weitzman and American Eagle. Personally, I like the styles that look rugged and distressed, or super snazzy -- like these snake-embossed bootsies by Miz Mooz.

BEHIND THE SCENES: KORA

I'm happy to start off 2010 talking about a collection that's truly amazing and one that everyone should know about -- Kora. When I was invited to a Kora party a short time ago, I didn't know much about the company, but I accepted (of course!) because I love jewelry and never pass up an opportunity to buy more.

Kora means "work" in the native language of Rwanda, where the jewelry is made. All the pieces are made out of horn by local artisans and part of the profits go toward building up a self-sustained industry for the plentiful resource in that country. Take a look at some items from the line, and then check out my interview with founder Amy Walker -- it's sure to inspire you.

Partygoers adorned their arms with stacks of bangles.

The candlelit room was decorated with beautiful flowers, while the jewelry was either hanging on rustic fixtures or laying on gold material. Truly exquisite.

Accessory Source: What brought you to Rwanda?

Amy Walker (above): To work in public health. While I was there, I was offered a job in business development, and it was something I always wanted to try.

AS: Why horn?

AW: I searched the country for a material that's valued in the States, can be sourced in Rwanda, and a trade that can be taught. I found two things, horn and wood. Wood is hard to import into the States, and horn has value in the U.S. so it had to be horn.

AS: What's the most rewarding thing about Kora?

AW: Building the infrastructure there -- there are six people working, everyone gets paid and they love the work. It warms my heart when their faces light up after telling them their products are well received. That, as well as building the management support team.

AS: How often are you in Rwanda?

AW: I lived there for 14 months. Now I go back and forth. I'm in Kenya and Rwanda for two to three months doing production, then I'm back in the States for a few months doing sales.

AS: What do you see next for your business?

AW: I have a big dream. Ideally, it becomes a legitimate industry in Rwanda. I'd like to set them up to become manufacturers so they have other clients to work with. Then I would like to go to other developing countries, find materials abundant in those countries and develop them to bring to a Western market.

Are you as impressed as I am? She's only 26.

PS: I was totally expecting a small gathering of women in a tiny NYC apartment. Instead, it was in a penthouse with hors doeuvers, wine, a smashing view and lovely people. I highly recommend attending a Kora party near you!

"ON" THE CUFF

I start my holiday shopping early each year, but without fail, I'm always scrambling the week prior to Christmas. Mainly because as I shop for others, I get sidetracked finding things for myself. I know you can relate! So please forgive my recent spate of tardy posts.

Also, by shopping early I have time to change my mind, rethink and complicate the situation, like these bracelets.

I purchased these wood cuffs for friends weeks ago and then decided more recently that they were rather plain.

So I headed to my neighborhood vintage bead shop and bought some antique findings.

I used this glue that I highly recommend if you are doing any jewelry crafting. It's easy to use, wipes off if you make a mistake and hardens very strong. Ignore the stated directions of letting the adhesive dry for 2-10 minutes, and let it sit for 24 hours.

Ahh... much better. Embellished wood cuffs for all!

STUD FINDER

I spotted these fancy footsies on the subway today. Immediately the designer Bess came to mind, since the line is known for studding one-of-a-kind vintage items -- meaning I can forget about owning a pair like these. But I had to know for certain, so I asked the girl who was wearing them.

Normally, I frown at celebrities having a clothing/accessory line, often because their collections just look like cheaper replicas of designers they wear. (Not an ounce of creativity!)

Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 is different -- the pieces have personality, like her.

Believe it or not, this striking carryall is a baby bag!

Shocking, right? Timi & Leslie's diaper bags have been in production for almost a decade, and the line continues to get better as it expands. Liz Lange's collection for Timi & Leslie is pure mommy-chic. Its contents include a bottle holder, changing pad and detachable "pouchette." I've been a fan of them for awhile and just noticed that Neiman Marcus (who has an extensive selection) has them on sale. I may be toting one of these myself soon... minus the baby.

PLAYGROUND OF JEWELS

Until recently, when I thought of Swarovski, two things came to mind -- the countless jewelers who design with Crystallized Swarovski Elements, and those little breakable figurines. That changed last week when I visited the Swarovkski Crystallized concept store in SoHo.

Let me walk you through what I consider a playground.

First, a glowing wall of over 2,ooo drawers immediately grabbed my attention. I was told that it's called the Library of Light. The library consists of crystals in every color and spans the length of the retail space.

Some crystals have closures (seen on the right) so they can be clasped onto anything. Others are without, for crafting (left).

There was a wide selection of reasonably priced ready-to-wear jewelry. I was actually surprised at how affordable everything was.

And now for my favorite part -- the store has a DIY section. Yes! It was awesome! There's a color chart to choose stones, cord and hardware findings.

The fun doesn't stop there. Need a cocktail? Past the retail section is a bar and restaurant.

After you imbibe a little, visit the lower level museum for a brief history lesson on the company and a display of old artifacts embellished in Swarovski. Like this circa 1940s crown worn by an Italian celebrity.

By this point, you'll probably need a rest, so pull up a stool in the lounge, Swarovski embellished of course!

IN THE BAG

I recently met handbag designer Constance Victory at a Swarovski event.* I wasn't surprised to find Constance toting a bag from her own collection, Victoire Focx, that launched March of this year. (The bag was exquisite, btw.)

Crafted with exotic skins, antique chains and Swarovski crystals, Victoire Focx bags are unique -- I dare say timeless. It's like investing in a work of art. Should be, they start at $1,150.

I know I can't be the only accessory junkie to protect a handbag like a newborn -- you know, not taking it out in the rain or putting it down just anywhere, swaddling it... these bags are worthy of that care.

Currently these beauties are made to order, but Constance informed me that several retailers are interested in carrying the line for 2010.

If I had the funds, I'd be rockin' this tomorrow. A girl can dream, can't she?

I've always felt that a well-placed accessory could transform an outfit into something new, and now I know the same applies to footwear. These Absolutely Audrey clips have honestly revamped my shoe closet.

When I met designer Crisa Barriball, she told me that a plain shoe looks naked to her. Now I totally understand! I'll never look at these pairs the same.

I love the retro feel of my clips, but the line actually consists of three collections: evening, casual and bridal. With prices ranging from $12-$30, I'm seriously considering collecting them all!

My friend Stefanie was the first person I saw wearing TOMS shoes. I remember that before I could even ask, she was enthusiastically telling me about the charitable company. (For every pair sold, TOMS donates a pair to children in need.) I was moved by her initiative to wear them, and even more by the company's objective. But, to be honest, I wasn't that crazy about the overall look of the shoe.

Fast forward a year and a half, and I've noticed that the designs have evolved drastically. Check out this silver glitter pair for example. (It comes in black too!)

BADMINTON BAUBLE?

I've been wanting to talk about Mirit Weinstock since I first set eyes on one of her necklaces. I was so taken aback by its beauty, intricacy and uniqueness that I needed to know more. My search hasn't been easy, but worth it!

Here's what I learned:
The Tel Aviv-based designer inventively combines art with fashion in not only her accessory line but in ready-to-wear collections and wedding dresses.

Perhaps she picked up her creative approach and willingness to experiment from her internships at Alexander McQueen and Lanvin. I'm sure it didn't hurt!

Not your average statement piece, these necklaces are made of shuttlecocks (that's right, badminton birdies). Who knew they could look this good?

I haven't found many retailers that sell the line, but a few styles are available on PixieMarket.com, and I was told that Henri Bendel may soon be carrying them.

Bonus: Self portraits of fans from around the world are featured on Weinstock's site wearing her offerings. Not only is it worth checking out for the aesthetics, but by taking part, you can get a discount on the designer's goods. Pretty much a win win.

What would the retail industry be without top designers creating affordable lines? Anna Sui did Target, Jimmy Choo and H&M...

I'm happy to say that Stephen Dweck has joined these ranks, creating the Dweck Diamonds collection for QVC. He unveiled his first collection late last month and will showcase the next installment Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. (I've heard it's worth tuning in.)

Dweck along with Anthony Nak, Tacori, Michael Dawkins and others will be part of a designer jewelry event presenting their latest masterpieces for the shopping channel. (Pretty awesome!)

This woodsy Dweck Diamonds sterling ring with gold and diamond accents retails for approximately $100 on QVC. Nice.

I got an insider tip that Dweck will be featuring other nature-inspired items coordinating with his debut collection (shown above).

As one who seeks out unusual designs and a good price, I suspect this show will hold my channel surfing at bay!

Last night I attended the Lia Sophia soiree on the rooftop of Gramercy Park Hotel. Swanky! The perfect locale for the unveiling of their latest collection, Midnight II. I had the chance to interview designer Dani Stahl and get some great bauble wearing tips from her. But first take a gander at the line:

I really like the predominantly black pieces, with their pops of color and bling. They're a bold change from traditional gold or silver.

Can the girl take a picture or what? Lia Sophia designer Dani (below) has captured the attention of the fashion savvy with her stylish twists on trends.

And I had the pleasure to interview her.

Accessory Source: Did you ever expect to have such a big celerity following?

Dani Stahl: I design the Red Carpet collection for Lia Sophia, so having celebrities don the jewelry was the goal and purpose. But of course there was the possibility that no one would want to wear it, so, yes, it's exciting to see!

AS: What are your inspirations for the line?

DS: My mom.

AS: Why your mom?

DS: She has the most excellent taste in jewelry. Growing up I watched how she wore it and put it all together. Now I have access to her ginormous collection.

AS: How do you feel about matching jewelry sets?

DS: All in how you wear it. Generally, I don't like anything that matches -- for me, it's all about mix 'n' matching.

AS: How about mixing metals?

DS: Obsessed!

AS: What can you tell me about proportions. Like if you wear big earrings, can you wear a big necklace?

DS: I have a point system. You can't wear too many points. So, for example, if I wear a ton of bracelets, I can't wear huge earrings, or if I wear a bunch of big rings, I won't wear an oversize necklace. My only exception is hoops and long necklaces.

DIYF: BUTTONED BANGLES

It's DIYF! (Do-It-Yourself Friday!)
NYC is wet and windy today, and according to the forecast, more nasty weather is expected for tomorrow. A perfect reason to stay in and get crafty with some jewelry. I recently made these bangles for a friend, and she loved them. I had so much fun doing it I wanted to share the idea.

I started by purchasing bangles with a crochet overlay. Any fabric exterior would work, as long as the bangles are wide enough -- flimsy ones won't be able to handle the weight of the buttons.

I then purchased matching thread and various buttons in colors I thought my friend would fancy (muted metals and blues). Thread in the same color of the bangle is important so the stiching doesn't show, and it won't look as obvious if your sewing skills are a little messy.

My last step was stitching each button securely on the top half of the bangles.
Several hours later, I was done. Simple as that!

Tip: To cut down on your crafting time, don't stitch each button separately. With one long thread you can attach several buttons. (I figured this out a little late!). The only downside to this shortcut is you can't go back and snip off just one button if you don't like its placement. However, it is a huge time-saver.

Voila! A handmade bangle brigade!

WEITZMAN SPRING COLLECTION: PART 1

Last summer I had my heart set on a pair of jellies, and out of desperation, I squeezed myself into a pair of hot-pink children's ballet flats (I convinced myself they would stretch). Not the most comfortable, but adorable! For spring 2010, Stuart Weitzman uses playful materials to construct grown-up shoes in a girlish way.

This pair of jellies is available in a rainbow of colors.

Lucite is another fun material Weitzman incorporated into the collection. Its translucent nature makes for sleek, futuristic footwear that (above all) match everything!

What's more feminine than florals? These pansies handpainted on nappa (very soft leather) are precious.

Über feminine isn't the only look Stuart's exploring for spring. Tomorrow I'll give you a sneak peek at my menswear-inspired favorites.

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN

Being an admirer of all things retro, I was delighted by the Laura James jewelry collection. Incorporating antique and vintage finds, she has created elegant pieces that are wearable, unique, current and timeless.

I've often thought when looking at ornate chandeliers that the hanging crystals would make for some stunning jewelry. Thankfully, designer Laura James has had the same idea. How beautiful are these long necklaces made from remnants of a light fixture?

Laura told me (in her Southern belle accent) that multiples of the antique fixings aren't hard for her to procure. So only being able to make one of each bauble is not an issue. Because one-of-a-kind really only benefits the person who owns it! Am I wrong?

He proceeded, unsuccessfully, to try and shorten the chain (while still in the deli!). He extended an invitation for me to come to his studio and promised to customize it to my neck. How great? True story.

KUDOS FOR KOOBA

Nothing perturbs me more in the world of fashion than athletes/actresses/singers/models/ reality stars/wives of celebrities coming out with a clothing or accessory line (with a few exceptions, of course). Stick to what you know, people!
On the other hand, I enjoy it when existing designers expand their brand by introducing different products -- usually the end result is something pretty great! It's a win-win for designer and consumer!
Today I got a sneak peek at bag designer Kooba's first stab at shoes and bracelets.

MEA SHADOW UNVEILING

Lace? The more the merrier, and I cannot have enough of it. Lace anything -- clothing, shoes, tights, lingerie, table cloths, drapery... you get the point. I attribute my obsession to the material's ladylike/vintage appearance and romantic/Victorian association. Not surprisingly I'm drawn to anything else that even slightly resembles the fabric.

Laser cut-outs, for example.

'Oh my gosh" was all I could utter when I set my eyes on these stunners by Mea Shadow... while thinking how soon can I get my hands on a pair?

I never seem to be wearing the right footwear when it rains. When I opt for function, I feel frumpy -- when I commit to style, I inevitably wind up ruining a great pair of shoes. Though I wouldn't include Charles David as one of my faves, I think these rain boots are a happy medium. And the studded strap is removable. Not bad!

HATS OFF TO SELIMA!

Being the head wear junkie that I am, I was thrilled when invited to preview the Hats by Selima spring collection. As I arrived at the Bond 07 store in the East Village, I thought I was at the wrong place but continued forth anyway. I walked through the boutique only to arrive at a hair salon. This is getting good, I thought! I walked down a flight of stairs to locate the hidden Hats by Selima atelier. I met with designer Virginie Promeyrat who launched the line in March of this year. The lovely French designer walked me through the handmade collection and her work space. Here are a few of her masterpieces.

These miniatures were darling. She has an endless array of these petites to choose from, one more charming than the next.

The work space was full of hat boxes overflowing with tulle, antique trimmings, feathers, vintage hardware and jewels. A crafters dream!

A snazzy hat maker at work, with a dapper thinking cap on of course!

Prices range from $130 to $600, not bad for an original work of art. Whether you dare to be different or just want a hip hat, this store is worth checking out. The journey alone is worth the trip. Get a haircut if nothing less!

Play time! Like a kid in a candy store, I couldn't help try a few on before leaving.

I attended the Ann Taylor clothing and accessory spring preview yesterday. While I wasn't expecting to be, I was wowed by the jewels. It seems AT has refreshed their designs, opting for a more youthful and hip vibe. With their new direction they're not likely to lose their loyal customer base, but they're certain to attract new admirers (like me).

Undeniably a girl's favorite element on the periodic table.

The AU79 collection is dedicated to independent women who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty and make things happen for themselves -- go-getters, not gold-diggers. Their press release says the signature shovel represents empowerment and working hard to dig up whatever you want, and I can certainly appreciate the symbolism. At my age, a "Grrl Power" tee is a major fashion faux pas!

A floral-print Birkin-shaped bag? Just what I needed, and I didn't even know it! Rebecca Taylor has introduced yet another fanciful print to her Spring 2010 collection with this kitschy Victorian floral. This is indeed ladylike at its best.

The envelope clutches are bigger than your traditional M.I.L.K. (money, I.D., lipstick, keys) pouch, but perfect for work to evening. Go ahead bring some paper work home with you and look cute doing it.

I really like how modern influences are combined with more nostalgic elements with this shoulder bag. The chain-link strap and overall shape is very current, but the interlock weave and floral fabric reminds me of a handmade patchwork, think Little Fashion House on the Prairie.

My stylish model is Rebecca's fab PR director, Antonella. When it comes to accessorizing, Antonella is a pro. Just look at her stack of bracelets -- perfection!

SKYE'S THE LIMIT

When it comes to CC Skye's single-wrap screw bracelet, I am a repeat offender. I pretty much wear it with everything because it looks cool by itself and even better layered. They've taken their collection one step further for spring by substituting their signature screw accents with spikes. A pretty valid upgrade with '80s and punk trends taking over the fashion world. No complaints from me, I think every girly girl could use a spike or two.

A PERFECT MARRIAGE

As you may have noticed, I made a few changes to the blog. Larger images were long overdue, and I hope you enjoy them.

Now let's talk handbags! I am officially a fan of Treesje. After meeting co-designer Sheila Nazarian (she's a sweetheart) and taking a look at the fall/holiday/spring collections, it would be impossible for me not to be an admirer.

Sheila filled me in on how she and partner Laura Darrah came up with the name of their company. They met at a friend's wedding (both were bridesmaids), hit it off, discussed their ideas, and just like that -- over I do's and finger foods -- their collaboration was born! As for the name, Treesje is the bride's middle name. Not a bad wedding gift, an entire handbag line named after you. I'd take it!

Most of us are familiar with the metro clutch (below) seen under the arm of almost every starlet in Hollywood.

But the rest of the collection proves that their success is not just a fluke or one-bag wonder. Check out the sacks that are about to get a lot of attention.

They're accented with just the right amount of studs (no overkill) and in the most lavish colors.

This arrangement reminds me of confetti.

I'm gushing!! Are you?

I truly fancy this cognac color. Handbags have become such a statement piece that basic black or brown (although essential) is almost boring. A colorful bag is no longer a frivolous purchase, but an investment.

I love that gloves are back in fashion, and not just to

keep you warm. These flirty feminine mitts are from Echo Design.

Fingerless gloves have also made a comeback.

Who isn't anticipating Jimmy Choo's H&M collection,

which hits 200 stores Nov. 14? Lucky for us, some pics

have been leaked! The accessory and clothing line combines

rock and the '80s, two of fall's most prominent influences.

Koodos to H&M for having Jimmy Choo as their

first accessory designer collaboration. Not to shabby!

I think the collection might be worth waiting on the inevitable

long lines at the door, dressing room and check-out!

When I was in junior high, Bass shoes were "in," or at least in my

circle of friends. It started with the preppy kids who took the

term penny loafer quite literally and accented their footwear with

pennies, and then they made their way to the fashion experimental.

After 8th grade, their appeal dwindled for me, and it was on to

Doc Martens and Chucks. Until last week, when I attended a Bass

2010 preview. And DAMN, they are back and better than ever!

THE ART OF STACKING

Isn't accessorizing all about the stacking? It's an art really,

and I commend anyone that has the ability to pull it off.

As an accessory lover, I welcome the challenge everyday

to pile it on, but it's not always pretty!

This girl was sitting next to me at one of the shows this week.

I thought her stacking was spot on. Her array of sizes, colors

and textures worked well together without being gaudy.

My favorite famous stacker has to be Mary-Kate.

I mean really, who stacks higher, wider or cooler than her?

Don't get me wrong, wearing one bold piece is fabulous and chic,

but the level of difficulty is about a zero and not very interesting.

Stacking is a risk -- it can go very wrong, but it's a chance the

daring must take to separate themselves.

J. MENDEL DOES IT RIGHT

I hadn't really been that blown away by any of the accessories

I've seen on the runway so far -- everything has been expected,

until yesterday. J. Mendel's citron, amber and crystal-blue gowns

were accessorized with amazing Christian Louboutin for Mendel

shoes and lucite jewelry.True show stoppers!

I'm speechless!

These pieces remind me of rock candy.

Props to J. Mendel for curling the models' hair! Us curly girls don't get

a lot of love from the fashion community! The artistically disheveled

'dos were romantic and complemented the ethereal gowns perfectly.

When the time is right I'm definitely stealing that hairstyle!

FASHION'S NIGHT OUT

Last night I attended a few "Fashion's Night Out" soirées.

When the invitations first started coming in, I thought,

"What is this Fashion's Night Out, and why are all the

designers having an event on the same evening?" I quickly

realized the point was to celebrate the start of fashion week and,

more importantly, to drive sales. Many designers opened pop-up stores,

offered discounts, gave an item free with purchase, had celebrity

attendees, and kept the bubbly flowing, all to bring people in.

I spent most of the evening at Edmundo Castillo. The invite said

look for the Winnebago located on Bond and Bowery.

At first I was at the wrong party. Who knew there would be

two Winnies on Bond?!!! This one was making tacos. Ha!

I quickly realized I wasn't in the right place and kept walking.

I found the right Winnebago (it actually was a location van),

and the party was inside.

I'm not sure if overall designers profited financially from the evening.

There seemed to be a lot of drinking/socializing and little buying.

But if the goal was to have fashionable people out and about,

then mission accomplished! Stylelistas were everywhere!

These were my souvenirs from the evening.

I have to figure out how to tie them to optimize their beauty.

Edmundo autographed them for me.

DAILY DUDS

This is what I frolicked about in today.

The dress and blazer are both vintage.

I found the blazer in the Salvation Army's little-boys section,

a department where you'll often find me --

apart from pants, everything usually fits.

I procured this bad boy at a white elephant sale (aka a rummage sale)

at a church. The snake is real, score!!!

The daisy bracelet is vintage.

I think the charm bracelet is Kenneth Cole,

but I'm not sure because I removed the label.

I bought this comb at a plus-size vintage store called

ReDress in Brooklyn. I can find something anywhere!

As I'm preparing myself both mentally and physically

for the start of NY Fashion Week, I'm just now realizing

that I'm about to see Spring 2010. Spring 2010??

I'm still wearing summer! Haven't even been able to bust

out any of my threads or trinkets for fall 2009 yet!

Yesterday I viewed my first spring accessories collection, Faryl Robyn.

She never disappoints! Her designs are clever, and her

color palettes are unique while still being wearable.

This season it's her heel shapes that make a statement.

With designers like Louis Vuitton incorporating geometric

shaped heels, I predict that this is going to be a reaccuring

shoe trend all week. Stay tuned!

ACCESSORIES...DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT 'EM

I wanted to share with you pictures of the bride from

the wedding I went to this past weekend, mainly because

her hair accessory was spot on! The headband was a pleasant

and whimsical addition that took her overall look to a chic,

fashionable and downright freakin' awesome level!

I couldn't take my eyes off of her or the bejeweled bauble!

I think most brides focus on their dress and forget about

what an amazing accessory can do. The rest of her jewelry

was minimal, as it should have been. Well done, Jen!

Seriously... it's like a spread out of Modern Bride magazine.

I'm back from my vacay in Florida (thrift store capital of the U.S.)!

I was there for a family wedding, but I couldn't help visiting a few

Hospices, Good Shephards and Salvation Armys along the way.

Here are two bags I snagged.

Beaded sack for $2 bucks, that's what I'm talking about.

And this suitcase for $5.95. I've been scoping out

my local goodwills for one, so I'm so glad I can now cross it off my list.

It's a perfect size for me --

I like to travel light so I can buy things from wherever I go.

FOR THE LOVE OF FAYE

It was a little too hot today to be sporting any

extra accessories, but I did for the love of Faye.

Five years ago, I went through a phase when I would

wear a hankerchief on my head everyday.

(I can't remember if I was covering a bad haircut

or if it was my simple solution to not doing my hair.)

After Netflixing Bonnie and Clyde, I was inspired to

don it again, with a twist.

scarf-Bilingual, sunglasses-vintage, top-from Greece, necklace-Rachel Leigh

I can't say I liked the movie, but Faye's costumes

and beauty make up for the lackluster plot.

I think the scarf around her neck is worth copying.

I stored away my beret in high school shortly

after a class trip to Paris. I thought I was cool

purchasing a traditional black beret until the

rest of my classmates picked up their own in a

rainbow of colors and wore them everywhere we went.

We could have been chanting "TOURISTS COMING THROUGH"

and it would have been more subtle.

I'll hold off till fall to take that one out of the archives!

FOR ART'S SAK

Leave it to Sakroots to create a handbag line that is a

mindful contribution to the world. Their latest project

for Spring 2010, the Sakroots Artists Circle,

supports the Nature Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees campaign

and offers an excellent opportunity for undiscovered artists.

The collection features original prints created by artists

who share the brand's hope for harmony and peace.

The series starts with Brooklyn-based artist Diane Barcelowsky.

This bag is my favorite. I like that the complete

illustration is visable and printed in it's entirety.

It's like carrying a piece of art on your shoulder.

Diane's One World drawing grabbed the attention

of a Sakroots employee at a Brooklyn gallery exhibit.

Diane told me that when she got an e-mail from the

company expressing their interest in designing a line

of bags around her work, she thought it was a joke and ignored it.

Good thing the people at Sakroots were persistent!

The intricate detail of her piece is incredible. It looks like a tapestry.

There are nine different bag shapes available in

eco-canvas and eco-nylon, in two color palettes.

The collection will retail for $79-$99, and will be

sold at all major department stores and thesak.com.

PUSHING PETALS

Hair accessories can top off any look, but

they're usually on the bottom of my list

of fashion priorities, except of course when

I'm dreaming of living on a tropical island and

donning a red hibiscus in my hair.

Then they are a must!

I viewed Colette Malouf's fall collection recently,

and it reminded me of how fun hair accessories

can be where ever you are. They are an unexpected

element that can transform an outfit.

Everything else can be understated

(minimal makeup, small earrings, simple attire),

and a bold hair bauble will attract all of the attention

and draw it to your face.

These combs are my favorite. The craftsmanship is stellar.

Note to self -- I can live in New York

and still wear a flower in my hair.

Unlike yesterday's post, today I bring you a good idea

when it comes to shoes. It's from Kenneth Cole,

and I think it's going to change the future of footwear.

It's called the 925 TECHNOLOGY collection

(a little play on the metal silver and 9 to 5, as in the workday).

Each shoe is designed with a patented cushioning

system that consists of two layers of foam (a shock absorber

and a memory foam that molds to the shape of the foot),

a flaxseed pillow in the arch for support, a rubber sole for flexibility,

a sheepskin lining allowing the foot to breathe

and an impact resistant nylon heel lift.

I tried one on, and it was pretty cozy to say the least.

This month a limited supply of 5 different shoe designs

with the fancy shmancy inside are available.

Look for the silver heel.

They aren't just limiting the 925 TECHNOLOGY to stilettos,

the inner lining can also be found in flats.

As those of us high-heel wearers know,

sometimes a flat can be less comfortable than a heel,

so kudos to Kenneth!

Going forward all of their shoes will have

the 925 TECHNOLOGY. I definitely wouldn't

mind owning a pair. Having a pretty pump I can wear

all day and into the evening without any pain sounds good to me.

I think this is the start of a feel good shoe revolution!

I have a lot to talk about this week,

as many designers are showing their holiday collections.

But first... something more mind blowing!

While walking down 5th Avenue, I was stopped at a crosswalk,

I looked down and there it was...

something you could only see in New York --

a pair of lace up men's oxfords turned into peep-toe slingbacks!!!!

I kid you not.

My first thought, "Camera, where is my camera?"

I rummaged through my bag,

my second thought being, "Please don't let the traffic light change."

I got out my Nikon D50, quietly and discreetly took my first picture.

The light changed, and he was off.

There began my pursuit of following him,

and this guy was a quick walker. It was in the 90's today,

I had a film of sweat covering my body but I sucked it up

and kept pace closely behind him.

As I was chasing him, all i could think was "I NEED more angles of this"!

I cannot believe it! Full on slingbacks!!!!

Was this a home project? Or professionally done?

While I commend him on his creativity,

I think peep-toes should be saved for the ladies!!

Wouldn't you say?

BAGGAGE

My friend is getting married and honeymooning

in New Zealand. I'm a bridesmaid, and my duty for the bridal

shower was the "wishing well." In my opinion, wishing wells are

an archaic tradition so I decided to make it modern.

I chose a honeymoon theme and to create the "well" out of a

vintage suitcase. After a few days of searching, I stumbled upon

this gem at a thrift store. It's an old-school Samsonite.

I really liked the color, the size was perfect,

the inside checked out and the monograms were two M's.

The couple's names are Matt and Meg. Score!!

The is how I customized it. All it took were stencils,

a bottle of spray paint, stickers and patience.

At the shower the guests piled their honeymoon gifts

in the case, and it looked really good.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture, my bad!

Prior to this project, it didn't dawn on me how cool vintage

suitcases could be. I definitely need one for myself. If not to use, to have as decor.

Another item on my list of things to look for while thrift shopping!!
